iEnchant - iPod/iPad app

I was asked the other week whether I’d like to review the iEnchant App and I thought that it was an awesome idea, I’ve always wanted to review something on here. :) It’s currently available for both the iPod and iPad, so I’ve given the iPad version a quick run through. The iPod version looks to be pretty much the same, but optimised for the different screen. They both have the same four tabs opening onto the different part of the app.

“FAQ”

First up is the FAQ tab, which provides a rundown of how the app works as well as how enchanting works in Minecraft. Each topic links through to a page with some text answering the question. Some topics feature pictures of relevant Minecraft objects or recipes as well as tables with things like mob XP.

“Pick Enchantment”

This tab (did anyone spot the pun? I don’t know if it was intended. :P) lets you choose an enchantment from a list of all the enchantments available in the game. You can then choose one of the enchantment’s different levels. The final screen describes the effect that the enchantment will have and gives a table of percentages.

The “XP cost” section tells you the best level for getting each item with that enchantment if you want to minimise the amount of XP that you have to collect. It also gives the % chance of getting that enchantment on that item at that level.

“Select Level”

This tab lets you choose your XP level, an item to be an enchanted and the material that it is made of. You then get given a list of all the possible enchantment combinations and the probability of each of them.

“XP Calculator”

When you put in a current XP level and a target XP level on this tab, clicking “Calculate” will tell you how much XP you would need to go up to that level. It’ll also generate a list of mobs and the number of them you’d need to kill to get that much XP. Finally, it estimates how much time you would need to spend in an XP grinder (this is what an XP grinder is) to generate that much XP.

Seems like a handy app, especially if you’re new to enchanting. :)

So any tips on keeping a build moving smoothly when that build is going to require a lot of temporary scaffolding to reach those hard to reach places? (IE: For example making a large hollow sphere, picked for all those blocks that are diagonally connected to each other and so need temp blocks to get a new section even started)

I tend to always place the temporary blocks on the same side, so that I can easily just run along that edge and break any that are left over. When I made my glass sphere, I always placed the temporary ones on the inside. Also, I usually have some central point that I’ll run some ladders up and then I run more scaffolding from there at different levels. It really depends on the build I suppose. Things are a lot easier now with flying on creative maps. :P
